Save any page or PDF as Markdown you'd actually keep.

Zapnab is a browser extension that keeps tables, code blocks, math and links intact. Everything runs on your device: no account, no uploads.

Runs locally · No account · Nothing leaves your browser

Zapnab is not in the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons or Microsoft Edge Add-ons yet. Each button goes live with its listing.

Look at what survives

Many page-to-Markdown tools drop tables or flatten code. Zapnab keeps them.

  • Real GitHub-flavored tables, including ones reader view would drop.
  • Fenced code blocks that keep their language.
  • Headings, lists, links and blockquotes preserved.
  • Rendered math (KaTeX, MathJax, MathML) comes back as LaTeX between $ marks, the way GitHub and Obsidian expect.

Zapnab's output is checked on every change against a regression set of 55 real-world pages.

Capture the way the page is shaped

  • ArticleJust the writing, minus navigation, ads and cookie banners.
  • Full PageThe whole structure, including tables and forms that reader view drops.
  • DocumentationKeeps breadcrumbs and the docs sidebar.
  • SelectionOnly what you highlighted.

Built for where Markdown goes

Plain GitHub-flavored Markdown, or a profile for Obsidian, Jekyll, Hugo or MkDocs that writes the front matter each one expects. Front matter can be switched on or off.

PDFs too

Open a PDF in a tab, or pick one from your computer. Text-layer PDFs are parsed on your device, with headings and paragraphs reconstructed. Japanese, Chinese and Korean text is kept.

Scanned PDFs have no text layer. Zapnab says so and stops, rather than handing you an empty file. It does not do OCR.

Many ways in

  • Toolbar icon: preview, then keep.
  • Right-click anywhere: Page to Markdown, Selection to Markdown, or Copy as Markdown straight to the clipboard.
  • Keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+M by default, changeable in Chrome.
  • A side panel beside the page that follows your tab, so you can switch mode and capture again without leaving.
  • Edit the Markdown in place, copy it, or download a .md file.

Honest about quality

GoodPartialNeeds review

Every capture is rated before it lands in your notes, so you know when a page needs a second look. Each capture also shows a word count and an estimated token count, handy when pasting into an AI chat with a context limit. Zapnab itself uses no AI.

How it works

  1. Open any page or PDF. Docs, a blog post, a README, a paper.
  2. Click Zapnab, or right-click. Pick a mode if the default is not right. A preview and a quality rating appear.
  3. Copy it or download the .md. Into Obsidian, a repo, a static site or an AI chat.
Under the hood

Noise removal, then main-content detection (Mozilla Readability plus semantic HTML and density fallbacks), then mode-specific handling, then Turndown with custom table and code rules, then output sanitization (executable content stripped, URL schemes validated). PDFs use pdf.js in a separate pipeline. All of it runs in the browser.

Your pages never leave your browser.

  • No account.
  • No server.
  • No upload.

Extraction, conversion and cleanup all happen locally, and capturing a page that is already open works with no network connection. Check it yourself: open DevTools, go to the Network tab, capture a page, and watch nothing leave.

Permissions, in plain English

PermissionWhat it is for
activeTabRead the tab you capture, only at that moment.

No host permissions. Zapnab can only read a page when you act on it. Read the full privacy policy, or see what changed in each version in the changelog.

Questions

Does Zapnab send my pages anywhere?

No. Extraction and conversion run in your browser. There is no account and no server for your content to go to.

Does it work offline?

Capturing a page that is already open in your browser works with no network connection.

Does it use AI?

No. It converts with a deterministic extraction pipeline. You can paste the result into any AI tool, and it shows an estimated token count for that.

What happens with scanned PDFs?

Zapnab tells you the PDF has no text layer and stops. OCR is not supported.

Which sites does it work on?

Most pages with real content. Every capture is rated Good, Partial or Needs review so you can tell when a page needs a second look. Pages that build their content only as you scroll can come out partial.

Does it store my captures?

Capture history is kept locally on your device. Saving the full text is off by default; you can switch it on in Settings.

Which browsers?

Chrome on desktop. Firefox and Edge listings are planned. Each install button at the top of this page goes live when its store listing does.

How do I change the keyboard shortcut?

Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts in Chrome.

Zapnab the page. Keep the Markdown.

No account. No upload. Add it in a click.
